Lectures:
Section I: MWF 12:30--1:20 at SMI 102
Prerequisite: 2.5 in MATH 120, score of 68% on
MATHPC placement test, score of 75% on MATHEC placement test,
or score of 2 on AP test.
The Course:
This is the first quarter in calculus of functions of a single
variable. Emphasizes differential calculus, applications and
problem solving using the tools of calculus.
Grades:
Your grades will be determined by how you do relative to the class as a whole.
Grades will be based on the following:
- Worksheets/Quizzes -- 10 %
- Homework -- 10 %
- Midterm one -- 20 %
- Midterm two -- 20 %
- Final -- 40 %
Homework: Homework will be assigned weekly
and be collected in Quiz Section on Thursdays (except for weeks 1, 9, 11).
You are responsible for all the problems assigned. We have a grader
to check your homework, but the amount of homework that can be graded
is limited. No late homework will be accepted. Click here for

Quizzes:
There are three 20-minute quizzes to be given on Thursday in
weeks 3, 7, and 10.

quizzes, midterms, finals and worksheets) at

Exams:
The first Midterm Exam will be given on October 27, (Tuesday
week 5). The first Midterm will cover Chapter 2 and
a part of Chapters 3 and 10.
The second Midterm Exam will be given on November 24, (Tuesday week 9).
The second Midterm will cover Chapter 3 and a part of Chapters 4 and 10.
The final exam will take place on Saturday week 11,
December 12, 2009 from 1:30 to 4:20. See

The final exam will cover
Chapters 2, 3, 4 and 10. You must bring
a Photo ID to all exams.
Rules for taking exams:
- You are allowed to use one page of two-sided handwritten 8.5 by 11
sheet of notes.
- Graphing calculators are not allowed in exams or
quizzes. You may use a simple scientific calculator.
- If you have a compelling reason for missing the common final exam,
speak to Math Advising
