Seminar in Teaching and Learning Mathematics:
New Ideas for Teaching Calculus

Judith Arms

Autumn 1999, Thursdays 1:30-3:30

This will be a 2-credit seminar centered around a series of talks by outside speakers organized by Paul Smith.  The speakers are all involved in significant innovation in the teaching of calculus at their home institutions.  The talks will last about an hour or slightly more, and will be followed by a discussion.  Both talks and discussion will be open to all, whether enrolled in the course or not.

Graduate students who wish to take the course for credit will be required to attend all the talks and discussions, and do some related reading and writing assignments.  The first, organizational session of the course will be on Thursday, September 30.  The first talk will be given by Deborah Hughes-Hallet on October 7 or 14.
