Math 581FB
Cohen-Macaulay modules over Cohen-Macaulay rings

Paul Smith

Autumn 2004, Monday/Wednesday/Friday 1:30

Most common algebraic varieties that fail to be smooth are Cohen-Maculay. Thyis is a techinical condition having many differenc albegraic interpretations/definitions. The Cohen-Macaulay modules over such a variety (or commutative ring) often have a very beautiful structure that connects with representation theory and encodes subtle geometric information relating to the exceptional fibers in a resolution.

This course is a good complement to a first course on algebraic geometry and/or commutative algebra.
