Professor, appointed 1999 (Ph.D. M.I.T. 1991) Research area: Algebraic topology, representation theory Personal Web page: http://www.math.washington.edu/~palmieri/ E-mail: palmieri[_a_t_]math.washington.edu Phone: 543-1785 Office: PDL C-538 Office hours: M: 1:30-2:30pm / Tu: 11:00-12:00pm / F: 11:30-12:30pm Courses taught this quarter: 300A Hobbies: Cooking, theater, being annoyed by politicians, playing with my daughter Professional interests I do research in algebraic topology; in particular, I like to take tools and results from topology and apply them in algebraic situations. This approach can yield proofs of nice theorems, and it can also open up new directions of research.
In my teaching recently, I have been trying to emphasize writing. Revision and
peer review are important tools which professional mathematicians use, so our
students should, too. I've been trying to incorporate these ideas in some of my
courses.
Some quotient Hopf algebras of the dual Steenrod algebra, Trans. Amer.
Math. Soc., to appear.
