What he does:
- Children of the Nations International (COTNI) Is an orphan care organization that operates in several countries worldwide. Christopher is the International Intern Coordinator in Malawi, Africa, and in this capacity, he brings students and professionals to work side by side with rural villages. Their focus is on skill development among orphaned and destitute children and their caregivers.
Christopher's background:
- Christopher received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Washington, Winter, 2007.
- Chris' academic background is in logic and set theory. They are good subjects, but he was most influenced by his community at the University of Washington. More specifically, it was the community outside the classroom that influenced him most. Because the UW is like a miniature version of the whole world, he gained a sense of his citizenship to a community greater than himself. It was his desire to strengthen that community that led him from mathematics and philosophy to work in Africa. Originally, curiosity and aptitude brought him to mathematics. When he saw that the fireld could sharpen his mind to such a point, he said, "This is for me now."
Advice for students:
- Envision the world wtihout you in it: see that gap? Okay. Now you know what you must do.
- Don't consider yourself a student only. Realize that in four years, you will be four years older, but with a degree. Make those four years worth as much as possible.
