What he does:
- Ben teaches conversational English to Austrian students of high school age. He collaborates with the school's English teachers on topics like Fair Trade, Government, Health and Fitness, etc.
- He doesn't use math on the job, except when he teaches math classes in English. He likes to bring up interesting problems like the Monty Hall problem. He also helps students with math outside of his normal teaching.
Ben's background:
- Ben received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, from the University of Washington, Spring 2007.
- Ben grew up in Bellingham, and graduated from Meridian High School in 2003. He subsequently attended the UW and pursued a math degree and a German minor. The latter stemmed from his new-found interest in German and a study abroad trip to Vienna in the Spring of 2005. Math had been a passion of his since he was about 15. He didn't see himself studying anything else. He says he is taking a break from that for a couple of years while teaching in Austria.
Advice for students:
- Ben's advice is if you need help, seek out your fellow students and professors!
