What they do:
- Justin is currently spending time on research projects and following up on ideas he didn't have time to explore in school.
Justin's background:
- Justin received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in ACMS-DMA in Spring, 2008.
- He is a math-phobe turned math major. His mathematical education began while in remedial algebra, where he interest in formal math was re-invigorated after a rough start with some poor instructors. He says he has always been engaged in analytical thought.
Advice for students:
- Learn to read slowly and with a pencil in hand. There is no shame in finding "simpler" explanations from sources that might be looked down on by your instructors. This is especially true if doing so permits you to understand the proofs.
- Do not be "just a mathematics." Take classes that are outside your major and experience. It all comes back to mathematics. Find those connections that will bring greater joy to your discipline and give a stronger background for rendering abstracts into concrete analogy.
- Find a style of notebook you like and get as many of them as you can. Never be without one. Writing will help quiet an uneasy mind and focus your thoughts and sharpen your ideas.
- Take time to study the structure of computers and how they actually process instructions. It will change the way you think about everything.
