What they do:
- Manages the Gemological Laboratory at Green Lake Jewelry Works. This is a custom designed jewelry store, where she supervises a staff of approximately 25 employees.
- This is a job she held prior to graduation and is continuing with it until she starts a Master's in Teaching program.
Jennifer's background:
- Jennifer received her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in Spring, 2009.
- When Jennifer originally attended college in the late 90's, she was a Pulp and Paper Science major at UW. She always had a propensity for studying math and science and thought she would like to use it in a career. At that time, she wasn't very focused and didn't enjoy her studies very much.
- As a returning student at the age of 26, she discovered she was more focused and realized she wanted to teach math. She first thought about teaching chemistry, but quickly came to the realization that her true passion was in mathematics. She is hopeing to bring equitable mathematical learning experiences to as many high school students as possible.
Advice for students:
- Study hard, but try not to burn yourself out. There are lots of courses to cover and you will definitely find a few of them that really grab your interest. Find study buddies. They saved Jennifer's life and gave her sanity!
