What he does:
- Paul develops web applications to assist clinical research studies. This includes database administration, project management and programming.
Paul's background:
- Paul received a Bachelor of Science in Applied and Computational Mathematics (ACMS), from the University of Washington, Spring 2005, with an emphasis in scientific computing.
- Paul's work is in the computing realm, with room for algorithms and math down the road.
- Paul has been working with computers for a long time before coming to college. He has always enjoyed math and physics, and received minors in both. He also wanted the flexibility of finding a job right out of school, which he felt could be difficult with just math or physics. He discovered the ACMS program, which allowed him to combine his interests in math and computing.
Advice for students:
- Having an ACMS degree or math degree means nothing on its own. It is more what YOU make of it. One needs to assert themselves in the industry. Don't bank on your math skills getting you a job. Be sure to network while still in school.
