What they do:
- Young designs new streetlighting districts and replaces broken or damaged streetlights. Also he reviews new construction applications which involve lighting
Math on the job:
- Math is used to compute lighting calculations, distances needed between lights to effectively and sufficiently lit a particular intersection, etc.
Student's background:
- Graduated with degrees in ACMS and Electical Engineering in Winter 2012
- When Young came to UW, he wanted to study business initially. However, with a strong mathematics, analysis and physics background, he decided to change and applied to ACMS, as well as Electrical Engineering. Both his parents were Electrical Engineers as undergraduates.
Advice for students:
- Be passionate about what you study, and make sure to engage yourself with classmates and professors, as well as local professionals. Job opportunities and career will open up naturally.
