Rachel's background:
- Rachel received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Economics, from the University of Washington, in Spring 2006.
- Rachel's mother was a math major, and undoubtedly influenced her. She always enjoyed math and was pretty good at it, and liked it so much, she took two math classes her senior year in high school. A friend was planning to be an actuary and her interested in actuarial work. Initially she wasn't sure what she would do with her math major, and had considered teaching.
Advice for students:
- Rachel's advice is to do well in school. Choose to major in something you really like and will enjoy. Don't give up on math. Many advanced positions require or prefer a math background. This background will increase your earning potential, whether your job requires alot of math or not.
