What they do:
- He provides assisance to PhD Economists on academic research papers, and prepares data releases for the public website.
Math on the job:
- Braden's job is almost all quantitative. He programs complex operations onto data, does regressions of data to try to identify trends and then prepares graphs for presentations and public releases.
Braden's background:
- Braden received his Bachelor of Science in ACMS and Economics with minors in Math and Applied Math in Spring, 2009 .
- He always had a fascination with sports statistics and a logical process of thinking as opposed to being creative. When he got to college, he couldn't stand writing papers and analyzing poems, but math homework wasn't so bad once he got out of calculus.
Advice for students:
- Take as many programming classes as you can. You need something to distinguish you from other job candidates, especially Ivy Leaguers, if you are planning to job hunt on the east coast. The more programming languages you know, the more you appear committed and willing to learn. It is obvious to say take as many math classes as you can, but do it. Don't worry about just taking the minimum amount of classes. Try to be well-rounded academically.
