What he does:
- Steven writes various programs related to computer vision and object recognition. He primarily uses a custom language, as well as C++, Java, and FORTRAN.
Math on the job:
- The work Steven is doing uses alot of geometry, as well as complex algebra (such as quartic equations) and calculus.
Steven's background:
- Steven received a Bachelor of Science in ACMS in March, 2007, with an emphasis in discrete math and algorithms, and a minor in Mathematics.
- Steven has always been interested in computers. His math interests were really more tied to his high school and college science classes. To be honest, he never really liked math until he realized how useful it can be.
Advice for students:
- A math degree transfers across a wide range of fields. There are many opportunities out there.
