What he does:
- Ting-You develops tools for developers to use to ease the development process. He also develops tools to help manage products that his team delivers.
Math on the job:
- For many of the algorithms used in their tools, they need to decide how and when certain actions should take place. To do this, they need to make many statistical calculations.
Ting-You's background:
- Ting-You has Bachelor of Science degrees in Math and Computer Engineering from the University of Washington, Autumn, 2007.
- Ting-You has always enjoyed mathematics and algorithms. He came from a background in which his family is all strong in math, and most have a high interest in computer science. This helped develop his passion for the two subjects.
- He also had a great math professor, Jim Morrow. He really made the hard classes enjoyable, and showed an enthusiasm for math that influenced Ting-You. It was after his class that he made the decision to be a math major.
Advice for students:
- Ting-You's advice is to follow your passion and work hard at it. There is always something more to study in any field. Take some risks and try out new things.
