Primary Teaching Endorsement; Secondary School

If you are a current UW student and are interested in teaching mathematics at the secondary level, please meet with a math advisor as soon as possible. To visit the website for this information, go to: Teacher Preparation Option

If you are interested in a teaching endorsement in Mathematics from the State of Washington and have either an endorsement in another subject or a bachelor's degree from another university, the Math Department will review your transcripts, and recommend or require the following courses or their equivalents. Please contact Brooke Miller at 543-0388 or email miller@math.washington.edu, for more information about these requirements or for a review of your transcripts.

As we review your transcripts, we will be looking for courses equivalent to the following:

    Calculus -- Math 124, 125, 126 (5, 5, 5)
    Math Reasoning -- Math 300 (3)
    Linear Algebra -- Math 308 (3)
    Algebra for Teachers -- Math 411, 412 (3,3)
    Geometry for Teachers (Euclidean and non-Euclidean) -- Math 444,445 (3, 3)
Probability and Statistics -- Math 394 (3), and a basic course in Statistics

As a general rule, mathematics courses are primarily offered during the day. We have a very limited offering of evening courses. The math courses for teachers, 444/445, 411/412, are also offered during Summer Quarter. Please check with the Student Services Office, C-36 Padelford, (206)543-6830, for specific information about class meeting times.
