ACMS and Biology

ACMS students with interests in Biology will probably select the Biological and Life Sciences Option, though for certain specific interests other options may also be appropriate (e.g. the Statistics Option for those interested in Biostatistics). For the courses in the Group II electives, a coherent set of courses should be chosen, generally at the 300 level or higher. Ideally they should have some analytical or mathematical component, or at least be part of a coherent program leading to an understanding of problems at the interface between biology and mathematics or computational science. The specific choices will depend very much on your interests.

Some ideas are listed below, but you should discuss your planned program with an ACMS Adviser in advance. Students are also encouraged to meet with Biology Program Advisers (in Hitchcock Hall) to discuss the courses they plan to take. Some of the courses listed below have overlapping material or special prerequisites and the right combination should be carefully selected.

NOTE: Some upper-division courses in other departments are designated "Majors Only" and may only be open to ACMS majors on a space-available basis. This should be kept in mind when planning a program. It is also the responsibility of the student to determine any prerequisite requirements pertaining to their chosen elective courses.
