Probablistic Ensemble Weather Forecasting

McLean Sloughter

UW Statistics Graduate Student

This talk will look at the University of Washington ensemble forecasting system, and at statistical methods for creating probabilistic forecasts - that is, forecasts which include uncertainty information. Bayesian Model Averaging, using the EM algorithm, will be discussed as a method to combine information from multiple point forecasts into a single probabilistic forecast.
