RTG Academic/Industrial Internships
UW graduate students in the IPDE group are offered the opportunity to
pursue an internship with a senior researcher at another academic or
industrial institution, funded by the RTG grant, for a period ranging from
a few weeks to a semester. Similar such internships were offered before the
existence of the grant on an ad hoc basis. Examples of such past
internships are the following:
Past Academic Internships
- Michal Skokan, a Ph.D. student of Gunther Uhlmann who graduated in 2004,
visited Vladimir Sharafutdinov in Novosibirsk, Russia, for Fall quarter of
2004.
- Bela Frigyik,
a Ph.D. student of Gunther
Uhlmann, visited Plamen Stefanov at Purdue in Fall 2005, and for several
weeks on other occasions.
- Matias Courdurier was coadvised by radiologist Paul Kinahan and
Gunther Uhlmann. Courdurier visited Frederic Noo at the Radiology Department at the University of Utah, for several weeks during 2006.
- Venkat Krishnan finished his Ph.D. under Gunther Uhlmann in 2007.
He visited Leonid Pestov at the Ugra Institute for
Information Technologies in Russia in the summer of 2005. He
subsequently made two visits to Plamen Stefanov at Purdue, once for a month, another for two weeks.
- Leo Tzou finished his thesis under Gunther Uhlmann in 2007. He traveled to Finland to
visit the University of Helsinki and the
Helsinki University of Technology for 6 months, working with Matti Lassas and Mikko Salo.
- Ian Langmore, a Ph.D. student of Gunther Uhlmann, visited Guillaume Bal at Columbia University in Spring
2007 and Spring 2008. After defending his Ph.D. at University of Washington, Ian took a postdoctoral position at Columbia starting in July, 2008.
- Matthew Blair spent one month in Autumn 2004 at the Institute for Pure
and Applied Mathematics on the UCLA campus, during the program on
Multiscale Geometric Analysis. His thesis advisor Hart Smith was a Visiting
Research Professor at this program.
- James Vargo, present student of Gunther Uhlmann, visited Matti Lassas at the
Helsinki University of Technology for a month in Spring 2008.
