Ioana Dumitriu Receives Leslie Fox Prize

Ioana Dumitriu Ioana Dumitriu is one of the two First Prize winners of the 13th Leslie Fox Prize in Numerical Analysis. These prizes, administered by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications in Southend-on-Sea, England, are awarded to young mathematicians (age 30 or less) on the basis of research papers submitted for the competition. The past winners include some of today’s most eminent researchers in numerical analysis. Dumitriu’s winning paper, written jointly with James Demmel and Olga Holtz, is entitled “Toward accurate polynomial evaluation in rounded arithmetic.”

Ioana Dumitriu joined the Department as an assistant professor in 2006. In addition to numerical analysis, Dumitriu’s areas of active research include random matrix theory and the probabilistic and combinatorial aspects of game theory.
