Announcements:
- Announced 3/12/2009: Here are the overheads from the review I gave on Wednesday (This is a microsoft word document). I only made it through the first 5 pages in class, so there are two extra overheads about the new material here.
- Announced 3/6/2009: The Week 10/Final review contains an overview of WS 23 and a brief discussion of the final exam.
- Announced 3/2/2009: The week 9 review contains an overview of WS 20, 21, and 22.
- Announced 2/27/2009: The current grades are now online, please read all the announcements on the grade page. The week 8 review contains an overview of WS 17, 18, and 19 and I have also posted some extra hints for the problems at the end of Worksheet 17. In addition, your second exam will be returned on Tuesday and grades will be posted by the end of the week. Here are the exam solutions (you will need to compare your numbers to figure out which version you had):
- Exam 2 Version 1 Solutions
- Exam 2 Version 2 Solutions
- In addition, here are some comments about Exam 2 which should help you review your studying methods.
- The exam statistics are as follows:
- MEDIAN: 39 out of 50 (78%)
- AVERAGE: 37.7 out of 50 (75.7%)
- ST. DEV.: 8.5 (17%)
- QUARTILES: The class is divided into fourths at the values: 34, 39, 44
- Overall there were a lot of people that improved from the first exam and there were a lot of exam scores in the 80 and 90 percent range. The average and median weren't as high as I hoped mainly because the data was skewed by a small group of students that score below 20 out of 50. These students need to carefully review their exam and their algebra so that they can do better on the final exam.
- Announced 2/11/2009: To the right of the page you will find the Week 7/Exam 2 Review (Read the comment at the right about the incorrect numbering of the worksheets in the review). In addition, the following materials were created by Dr. Alexandra Nichifor. (Thanks again Alex!)
You may find them helpful in preparing for the exam:
- Announced 2/9/2009: The review for week 6 is available at the right of the page. I have also posted homework 5 hints which contains hints for some of the most common questions I have received in emails and in the math study center this week.
- Announced 2/6/2009: The midterm grades up through exam 1 have been posted (The scores are listed by the last four digits of your student ID number). Please check that all the scores match your records and report any discrepancies to your TA. The exam 1 solutions are in the previous announcement below. The exam statistics are:
- MEDIAN: 38 out of 50 (76%)
- AVERAGE: 37.7 out of 50 (75.7%)
- St. Dev.: 7.6 (15.2%)
- If you scored below 35 out of 50, then you should be somewhat worried because if you have another low exam score, then it may be difficult to get the necessary 2.0 to move on into Math 112. What this means is that you need to change your study habits and try some of the suggestions that I have mentioned in class, on my syllabus, and in my emails. Also make sure to stay ahead on each assignment.
- If you scored above 35 out of 50, don't get complacent! You need to perform at or above your exam 1 score if you hope to maintain or improve your grade. The second exam tests a different set of skills (algebra), so a good performance on exam 1 in no way gaurantees a good performance on exam 2.
- Announced 2/2/2009: Your first exam will be returned on Tuesday and grades will be posted by the end of the week. Here are the exam solutions (you will need to compare your questions to figure out which version you had):
- Announced 1/30/2009: The review for week 5 (which contains some homework hints) is available at the right of the page. Your first exam will be returned on Tuesday and grades will be posted by the end of next week.
- Announced 1/23/2009: Exam 1 is Thursday, Jan. 29 in quiz section. Show up early (if you are late you will not be given additional time).
- At the right of this page, you will find a list of review sheets for each week of the course along with an exam 1 review.
- In addition, the following materials were created by Dr. Alexandra Nichifor. (Thanks Alex!)
