- Here is a Long Example of Standard Taylor Series Questions. It contains 6 fundamental types of questions which thoroughly review what we have done. I spotted a typo (I am looking for the originals to fix it, but haven't found them yet). TYPO: The third, fourth and fifth derivatives have obvious errors in their computation. This does not change the process, but it does change the values of M and the errors at these steps. I encourage you to correctly compute the third, fourth, and fifth derivatives and find the resulting errors.

Announced 10/26/2012: Here are some overheads and review sheets:
- Partial Derivatives Examples and a Review of Derivative Rules (including implicit differentiation).
- 14.4 and 14.7 Review: (TYPO NOTE: A couple students noted the obvious typo in the very last line of this review, it should read that the absolute minimum is at f(1,0) = -2/3). In addition to summarizing the material, this review sheet contains a fully worked out linear approximation example, a fully worked out differentials example, a fully worked out critical points example and a fully worked out max/min example. I hope these extra examples help to supplement the textbook and lecture.

- a small discussion of basic physics/vector examples: Some of you expressed extra interest when I mention these ideas in class. I think it is good for everyone to read so that you have even more physical examples to help you better understand the vector operations we've defined.
- A very brief visual and summary of conic sections followed by the graphs of hyperbolas (word document): It would be good to look at this before section 12.6.
- An old worksheet that discusses ellipses and hyperbolas and an old worksheet about hyperbolas and 3D graphs. Try working through these if you are unfamiliar (or rusty) with the equations for hyperbolas and ellipses (or if want to know more about them). These were written by Prof. Don Marshall.
- Overview of basic facts from 12.1, 12.2, 12.3, and 12.4

Announced 9/22/2012: Welcome to Math 126. This webpage contains the course syllabus, the homework schedule, a course calendar and links to Math 126 material. Throughout the quarter I will also be posting review sheets and announcements. Please check back regularly. For now, you should get the required texts which include:
- Multivariable Calculus, by James Stewart (this is a custom text for UW -- you may also use Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 7th Edition, by Stewart). You may prefer to buy this as an eBook bundled with your homework access code. You will complete homework through an online website called webassign. If you have NOT used webassign with this book, then you must purchase an access code. The least expensive way to do this is to get the departmental negotiated rate through this website: http://www.cengagebrain.com/micro/uwmathcalc. For $70, you will get the access code (which is good for Math 124, 125, 126, and 324) and the eBook. If you have already used webassign with this book (perhaps you took Math 125 at UW last year) and purchased a lifetime of edition code, then you can just log in and you should see the class and the assignments. If you have already used webassign but with the previous 6th edition of the book (perhaps you took Math 125 at UW two years ago) and purchased a lifetime of edition code, then let me know and our course coordinator can get your access code updated for the 7th edition. During the first two weeks, you can log into webassign as a guest. You are welcome to do this if you are still evaluating the class. But if you intend to take the course you should purchase the access code as soon as possible.
- Your first homework assignment is due at 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 3. Log in to Webassign to see this and all subsequent homework assignments. (How To Use Webassign)
- Once you type in an answer for a particular problem (or part of a problem) on webassign, a submit button appears. You submit one problem (or part of a problem if you like) at a time and your points for that problem are stored as part of your total score. You are allowed 5 attempts at each answer in Webassign (except for T/F and multiple choice questions, for which you are typically allowed one try).
