Math 126C Grading System

There will be a total of 300 points in the course:
100 on the Final Exam
60 on the Midterm
40 on the Minitest on the TN
60 from your best three (out of four) quizzes
20 points for worksheets and activities in Quiz Section, and
20 course points for homework
Important Note: The points marked on your homework each week are homework points. Change of policy, 2/19: Your lowest homework score will be dropped, and twice the average of your other homework scores (out of 10 points) will be your course points for homework. For example, suppose you didn't turn in one homework assignment, and got an average of 3/4 of the points on all the others. Then you would get 15 course points on homework.

At the end of the end of the quarter I will establish a grade scale corresponding to the 300 points. My preliminary estimate is that the scale will be linear, with grades of 2.0 and 4.0 corresponding to 190 points (approx. 63%) and 280 points (approx. 93%), respectively. The actual scale will be no tougher than the preliminary estimate; that is, your grade will be at least as good as the scale given above indicates. Improvement on the final over the midterms may be considered in setting your course grade.
