Ideally, you will look over the sections to be covered in class before coming to class. Then you will have some idea of the basics, and will be able to focus on, or maybe even ask questions about, the points which are hardest for you.

The summaries of past classes are not a replacement for attending class, but rather alert you to what you missed. After reading the summary and the corresponding sections of the book, see a classmate or instructor if you have questions.

• F 5/3: HW 4 due. Discussed formulas for coefficients in (a+b)ⁿ, see Wikipedia articles on "binomial theorem" and "binomial coefficents." §7.6.

• M 5/13: §9.1-2. In particular, we put Thm. I, p. 242, in matrix form, and worked on Example 2, pp. 244-247. Everyone should read this example and understand how the pictures on p. 245 were constructed.
• W 5/15: §§9.2-3. Worksheet on transformations and inverse transformations. We worked on 1 and 2 on the worksheet, will continue with it Friday.
