Final Exam for Math 427, Autumn 2012

Time and place: 2:30-4:20 Monday, Dec. 10, in the usual classroom, WFS 201.

You may bring a sheet of notes. Do bring paper in case there is not room on the test to do your work. If you work on your own paper, leave space between problems, or start a new page for each problem, and put the pages in order before handing them in. Also hand in your sheet of notes, at the end of your test. Most of the "General information, rules for notes, etc." listed on the Midterm information page still apply, so please review those.

Extra office hours Sunday afternoon 12/9, 3:30-5 PM, in my office (PDL C338). I hope to have the graded homework available. Some but not all doors of PDL are open on Sunday until 5. If one you try is locked, walk around the building and try another.

The test will be comprehensive, but the review recommended on this page as of Saturday at 5PM* will be designed to remind you of topics from early in the quarter that may be directly tested.
*To get most of the review material posted as soon as possible, the current version of this page is a draft, and more information may be added by Saturday.

• Some sample exam questions - even more revised version. (Thanks to Justin for alerting me to the oversight in the original question 6b; and Michael B for drawing my attention to question 5: original problem has answer of zero, which simplifies the computations a bit, not wrong but not what I intended.) These are not necessarily comprehensive; see other review recommendations below
  Answers to sample exam questions. Typos in answers to 2(a): lower bound for angle should be - pi/2 (not +pi/2) and final answer should be ln(2 sqrt{2}/3) - 5 pi/4.
• Be sure you are comfortable with the topics from the sample questions for Quiz 2 and the last homework assignment. Makeup quiz.
• Problems 3, 4, and 5 from the midterm (solutions). If this material has slipped out of your mind, you might want to look at similar problems in the midterm review problems (solutions).
• From HW 6: problem H (similar problem, #7, p. 78), and the problems from §54, pp. 178-179
