Information about Grades for Math 428, Winter 2013

Course grades will be based on a total of 250 course points:

• 60 course* points for homework; see comment below* on course versus homework points.
• Two midterms: 100 points (50 each).
• Final exam, Monday, March 18, 2:30-4:20 pm: 90 points.

The conversion scale from points to grades will be set at the end of the quarter. My preliminary estimate is that the scale will be linear with 230 points the minimum for a 4.0, and 150 points the minimum for a 2.0. UPDATE on 3/6: Current minimum for 4.0 is 220 points, for 2.0, 140 points.

The actual scale will be no tougher than the updated scale described above; that is, your course grade will be at least at good as the updated scale indicates. The grades computed using the actual scale may be adjusted slightly upward for performance trend through the quarter or extra credit (if any is offered).
