*NOTES FOR SOME PROBLEMS:
§1.3, p. 17: "Use the results in the text" means you do NOT have to do the separation of variables again. But in #5, 6, & 7, the PDE and BC are new, go through the whole process, considering ALL possible (real) values of the separation constant A. ALSO: in #6, state the values of m and n that give independent nontrivial solutions.
§2.1, p. 31: USE THE HINTS! When deriving a formula, you may use any formula earlier on the list, whether or not you've derived the earlier formula. You should need to compute integrals for only one or two of the seven R and W problems in the week 2 assignment (and if you are clever enough, none at all!).
§2.2, #7: "Be careful" just means "remember the convergence theorem and apply it correctly."
§4.2, #1: This does not need anything from Chapter 4. The only reason it isn't in §2.5 is that it needs §3.3, #6, to justify that the formal series solution does in fact converge to a solution to the problem.
§4.2, #7: In (a), give both mathematical and physical reasons. In (b): Technique 2 is overkill; try w(t) because given conditions are compatible with having u independent of x.
§4.4, #3: Why is the integral condition on f physically reasonable if u is the steady state temperature in the square region?
§5.4: Note instructions on p. 148!
