Th 12/12
*In the Preface, at least read the paragraph spanning pp. vi-vii and the section on "Exercises and Problems," pp. x-xi.
**Reading for Week 3 is long; don't try to do it all in one sitting! In Chapter 5, focus on finite complexes, and mostly on complexes of dimension two or less. This is a good place to skip most or all of the proofs on your first read.
Add to 3-16: Show the space in the problem is homeomorphic to the space defined in class as the Line with Two Origins: Set is the real line R and one other point, call it *, and basis for topology is all open intervals (a,b) in R and all sets of the form (a,0) ∪ {*} ∪ (0,b) where a < 0 < b.
1 Give solutions to 6-2 and 6-3 similar to proofs of Lemmas 6.16 & 6.17: as a sequence of presentations related by elementary transformations, with a sequence of sketches illustrating the presentations.
