By generalizing the Residue Theorem of complex analysis, one may describe the cohomology of hypersurfaces in projective space in terms of meromorphic forms defined on the ambient space.
We will use residues to compute differential equations which encapsulate the behavior of families of hypersurfaces. This computational technique, known as the Griffiths-Dwork technique, plays an important role in the recent paper of Clingher, Doran, Lewis, and Whitcher.
