MATH 308 C: Announcements
May 22, 2012
- I have a link with a Final from another instructor. Practice Final I am not telling that the test will be like that, not that long. But I think it is a good source for reviewing. Remember that our final will be based on what we covered in class and HW and the style will be more similar to those of the quizzes and midterm but more complete. It will also be cumulative and you can bring a two-sided sheet of notes (8 1/2 x 11 letter size paper) and a scientific calculator (NOT graphic).
- There are no posted any solutions for this final. If you have any particular doubts on any of the problems you are working on, you can ask me, and I can tell you if what you are doing is correct.
- Make sure to review from the notes, worksheets, HWs and the book. Doing some problems from the book and reviewing the results and what results imply what other results is important.
May 7, 2012This week we are going to learn about:
- 3.6: Orthogonal/orthonormal basis and Gram-Schmidts Algorithm How to construct an orthogonal basis from a basis that is not orthogonal. That is called the Gram-Schmidt algorithm. There is a handout I made about the topic in the Archive. It will be discussed in class Wednesday. Take a look at it.
- 3.7 Linear Transformations We will study special (linear) maps from a vector space to another vector space. Our main examples come from \((m \times n)\) matrices which we know that are functions from \(\mathbb{R}^n\) to \(\mathbb{R}^m\) (\(A: \mathbb{R}^n \to \mathbb{R}^m)\)
- 3.8 Least Square Method A method for approximating solutions for systems \(Ax = b \) which are not consistent.
May 1, 2012MIDTERM is this Friday May 4, 2012 during class.
March 25, 2012- There is a review session Wednesday. During the review session I will be answering questions from you guys. So come prepare with things you have doubts on or problems you want me to go over.
- I made a Review List of the topics that will come in the midterm. The list is not at all exhaustive of all that I've cover so make sure to look at the book and the class notes in order to get a full review.
- Please look at this Review List before the review session and let me know any questions or doubts about them.
- For the midterm you are only allowed to bring:
- a two-sided handwritten sheet of notes
- a scientific (NOT graphic) calculator
- Here is a practice midterm and the solutions
- Here is a review sheet for the midterm.
- You can find these and other documents in this Archive of previous midterms and quizzes I've written up.
- I also added more office hours, Wednesday from 12:30pm-1:20pm.
