Description

 

Math 307 D is an introductory course in ordinary differential equations. Includes first and second order equations and Laplace transform.

Textbook

 

Elementary Differential Equations and BVP (9th edition, 8th OK), by Boyce and DiPrima. If you are using the 8th edition, check this list of differences between the 2 editions regularly (thanks to Hart Smith for the list).

Homework

 

Homework should be neat and easy to understand. You should show all the work in order to get a full score. Unstapled homework solutions will NOT be accepted. Late homework will NOT be accepted. The weekly homework will be posted in the Homework section of the class website.

Quizzes

 

There will be FOUR quizzes during the quarter. The first quiz is a review quiz on the first Friday. The quiz grades (the %30) will be distributed among the 4 quizzes: 6 % Quiz 1 and %8 each for Quiz 2-4. The specific dates of the quizzes can be found in the class Calendar.

Exams

 

There will be midterm and a final exam.

  • Midterm: Friday, May 3, during lecture time at 11:30am-12:20pm at LOW 106.
  • Final: Wednesday June 12, 2:30pm-4:20pm at LOW 106.

There are NO MAKE-UP EXAMS. If you have a compelling, unavoidable, and well-documented reason for missing a test, you should speak with the instructor as soon as possible.

Attendance

 

Attendance is very important for this class. If you miss a day of lecture it is your responsibility to catch up with the material. There is no guarantee that the topic missed will be covered again during lectures.
