Vectors of motion and the circle of curvature

This sketch shows a particle traveling along a curve with its tangent vector (in red) and its acceleration vector (in cyan). In purple is shown the "circle of curvature", i.e., the circle tangent to the curve at the particle's location and with the same curvature as the curve at that point. This circle is also known as the "osculating circle".
