Here is 3 seconds of 500 hz sine wave.

Here is 3 seconds of 500 hz square wave. The square wave can be thought of as a sum of many, many shifted and flipped unit step functions.

The graph below shows both waveforms. Notice that only a very short period of time is shown: about 0.01 seconds.
