General Information

Homework 1: Read Sections 1.1-1.25 in Apostol and do exercises 1.9,1.11,1.19-1.22. (Assume A and B are nonempty in 1.21.) This assignment is due Wednesday, October 3.

Solutions to Homework 1

Homework 2: Read Chapter 2 in Apostol and do exercises 1.28,2.6,2.7,2.11,2.12,2.15. (In exercises 2.6 and 2.7, you are asked to "generalize to arbitrary unions and intersections". You need only write down the appropriate generalizations without giving a proof.) This assignment is due Wednesday, October 10.

Solutions to Homework 2

Homework 3: Read Sections 3.1-3.7 in Apostol and do exercises 2.14,2.21,3.2ace,3.9,3.12ef. (In exercise, 3.2 you need not give explanations for your answers.) This assignment is due Friday, October 19.

Homework 5: Read Sections 3.15 and 4.1-4.4 in Apostol; then do exercises 3.32,3.38,3.42,3.43,4.3,4.7,4.8,4.9. This assignment is due Friday, November 9.

Homework 6: Read Sections 4.5-4.14 in Apostol; then do exercises 4.11,4.11a,4.16,4.20,4.21(assume S is any subset of R^n and f is continuous at p),4.30,4.32,4.33. This assignment is due Monday, November 19.

Homework 7: Read Sections 4.15-4.20 in Apsotol and then do exercises 4.35,4.37,4.39,4.49,4.51,4.56,4.57. This assignment is due Wednesday, November 28.

Homework 8: Read Sections 4.21-3 in Apostol and then do exercises 4.55,4.62,4.63,4.64. In exercise 4.55, assume that A is a subset of S and that f is a uniformly continuous function from A to T. You may also assume problem 4.54---it's easy to prove, and you should be able to prove it, but you needn't write out the proof. This assignment is due Wednesday, December 5.
