Assignments and Announcements for Math 125 D and E

March 31: We covered Section 4.9 in class today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in your WebAssign HW1_A. We will cover Section 5.1 in class on Wednesday.

April 2: We covered Section 5.1 in class today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in your WebAssign HW1_B and #11 from HW1_C. We will move on to Section 5.2 Friday.

April 4: We covered Section 5.2 in class today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in your WebAssign HW1_A, HW1_B, and HW1_C. We will begin Section 5.3 on Monday.

April 7: We covered most of Section 5.3 in class today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW2_A, with the exception of problems 4 and 9. You should also be able to do problems 1-8 in HW2_B---an indefinite integral is the same as an antiderivative---and even problems 13-17 in HW2_C. On Wednesday, we will finish Sections 5.3 and 5.4 and start in on Section 5.5.

April 9: We finished Sections 5.3 and 5.4 in class today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW2_A and HW2_B. On Friday, we will cover Section 5.5 and perhaps move on to Section 6.1.

April 11: We covered Section 5.5 today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW2_A, HW2_B, and HW2_C. On Monday, we will move on to Section 6.1.

April 14: We covered Section 6.1 today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW3_A. On Wednesday, we will start Section 6.2.

April 16: We covered most of Section 6.2 today. You should now be able to do problems 8 and 11 in WebAssign HW3_B. You have enough theory to do the rest of the problems as well, but we'll do some more examples on Friday which may help you understand things better. After finishing 6.2, we will begin in on Section 6.3.

April 18: We finished Section 6.2 and began 6.3. You should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW3_B and problem 12 in HW3_C. On Monday, we will finish Section 6.3.

April 21: We finished Section 6.3 today, and you should now be able to do all of the problems in HW3_C. The midterm on Thursday will cover all of the material up through 6.3. You will be allowed one 8.5 x 11 inch two-sided handwritten page of notes but no calculator. On Wednesday, we will review for the midterm and begin in on Section 6.4.

April 25: We started in with the concept of work in Section 6.4. You should now be able to do problems 1-4 in HW4_A and problem 1 in HW4_C. We will not be spending much time on Section 6.4, the Average Value of a Function, since the formula for it involves nothing new. You might want to read that section now, and then do the problems in HW4_B. On Monday, we will finish Section 6.4 and maybe get to 6.5.

April 28: We finished Section 6.4 on work, and I defined the average value of a function. You should now be able to do all of the WebAssign problems due this Thursday. On Wednesday, we will begin on techniques of integration and will cover Section 7.1.

April 30: We covered Section 7.1 on integration by parts today. You should now be able to do all of the problems on WebAssign HW5_A. On Friday we will move on to Section 7.2.

May 2: We covered most of Section 7.2 today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW5_B. (You will find the identity sin2x = 2(sinx)(cosx) useful for some of the problems.) On Monday we will finish 7.2 and move on to Section 7.3.

May 5: I introduced trigonometric substitutions today. You should now be able to do problems 1-3 and 8-11 in WebAssign HW5_C. (Note that problem 12 is worth 0 points.) If you understand how to use the technique of completing the square, you will be able to do the other problems as well. We will cover this technique on Wednesday and then move on to Section 7.4.

May 7: We finished up with trigonometric substitutions and began in on the technique of integration of rational functions by partial fractions today. You should now bw able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW5_C. On Friday, we will finsh our discussion of techniques of integration.

May 9: We finished our discussion of Sections 7.4 and 7.5 of Stewart. You should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW6_A and HW6_B, and problems 6,7 in HW6_C. On Monday, we will discuss Section 7.7 on approximate integration.

May 12: We discussed Section 7.7 today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW6. On Wednesday, we will begin Section 7.8 on improper integrals.

May 14: We began Section 7.8 on improper integrals. On Friday, we will finish 7.8 and perhaps move on to Section 8.1 on arc length.

May 16: We finished Section 7.8 today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW7_A. The midterm on May 22 will cover material up to and including this assignment. On Monday we will cover Section 8.1 on arc length.

May 19: We covered Section 8.1 today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW7. Note, however, that HW7_B and HW7_C are not due until next week. The midterm on Thursday will cover from work up through improper integrals, and the ground rules are the same as for Midterm 1. You may use any of the antiderivatives in the table on p.495 of your text without explanation on the test. On Wednesday, we will review.

May 23: We began discussing center of mass today. This is covered in Section 8.3 of Stewart. We will not, however, be covering hydrostatic pressure in this course. On Wednesday we will finish this topic and perhaps begin in on differential equations, the final topic of the course.

May 28: We finished our discussion of center of mass, and you should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW8. On Friday, we will start on Sections 9.1 and 9.3 on differential equations. (We will not be covering Section 9.2). Because we are about a lecture behind, the Week 9 worksheet is not appropriate for tomorrow. Instead, we will begin our review for the Final Exam. Please bring the worksheet "Review for the Final Exam Part 1" to quiz section tomorrow; this worksheet may be found here .

May 30: We covered Section 9.1 and most of Section 9.3 on separable differential equations today. You should now be able to do all of the problems in WebAssign HW9_A and problems 1-10 in HW9_B. On Monday, we will discuss "mixing problems" and then move on to Section 3.8 on exponential growth and decay, discussing it using our knowledge of differential equations.

June 2: We discussed "mixing problems" and most of Section 3.8. You should now be able to do all of your WebAssign problems except for 3,4, and 6 of HW9_C, which require Newton's Law of Cooling. This will be discussed in quiz section tomorrow. On Wednesday I will say a little more about differential equations and then begin our review for the final.
