Taylor Polynomials and Series are in
Sections 11.10 and 11.11 of Stewart. However, since we are not doing the rest
of Chapter 11, here are some notes and selected problems you can do from those
sections. Also, Stewart does the topics in reverse– series first and then
polynomials. So you may want to wait until we finish TN 1-5 before looking at
the book.
Section 11.10 Taylor and Maclaurin Series
McLaurin series
is Taylor series with a=0. Ignore division of series and binomial series. You
can do problems 1, 2, 5-10, 13-20, 22, 29-44, 47-50, 55-58 and 63-68. (Correct
to k
decimal places means the error is less than 5*10^(-k-1).)
Section 11.11 Applications of Taylor Polynomials
Ignore the section on applications to physics. You can do problems 1-10,
13-21 parts (a) and (b), 23-26.
