     TEXT: Introduction to Linear Algebra,  4th Edition
                Johnson, Riess, and Arnold
 

     GRADING: There will be two exams during the quarter, each counting
              25% of your grade. They will be announced at least one week
              in advance. The final exam will cover all the topics which
              were discussed during the quarter and will count 40%. It is
              scheduled for Monday, December 14th, 8:30 to 10:20.  There
              will be weekly homework assignments. They will be graded
              and will count 10% of your grade.  Late homeworks will not
              be accepted.   In addition to the homework, there will be a
              few optional , extra-credit problems.
 
 

     The course will cover most of the first three chapters of the text.
     There are two main topics in the course. The first topic is Matrices.
     This will include the rank, the existence of inverses, determinants,
     eigenvalues and eigenvectors. The second topic is Vector Spaces,
     including a discussion of subspaces, dimension, and bases of a subspace.
     Both of these topics are interconnected in many ways. The course will
     end with a discussion of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of matrices.
