Title Integral Geometry and Tomography
Date February 19 4:00pm PDL C-36
The classical problem of x-ray tomography is to recover a function from knowledge of its integrals over all lines. The solution to this problem has numerous applications, primarily in medical imaging. Also, it inspires an entire class of more abstract and complicated problems, known collectively as integral geometry, in which we try to recover a tensor field from its integrals over some collection of manifolds. I will discuss methods used to solve the classical problem, and some of the more general problems of integral geometry being studied today.
