Title The State of the Math Grad Program

The financial situation which we all find ourselves in the midst of will have an impact on our department. There are specific steps which have already been taken by the College, and by the department, to prepare for the anticipated budget cuts to the Universty. We are working to minimize the impact of these budget cuts and to insure the continued success of our graduate program. We also have some good news within the department which will have a very positive effect on graduate student support in both the short term and the long term. I would like to use this open meeting, which all graduate students are encouraged to attend, to discuss this. I will make a short presentation of what we know and what we've done so far, and discuss the degrees of uncertainty that lie ahead. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion. At some point I will leave and the GSR, Ursula Whitcher, will carry on a "graduate student only" discussion from which she can convey additional thoughts and concerns to me.
