A simplicial complex is a collection of sets which is closed under inclusion. These fundamental combinatorial objects have deep connections to other branches of mathematics, especially geometry and algebra. In this talk we will discuss some of these connections; along the way we'll see some powerful results (both classic and brand new) and touch on some fascinating open problems.
