Title An Inverse Source Problem with Partial Data
Date May 5 4:00pm PDL C-36
The radiative transport equation describes the behavior of particles in the presence of absorption and scattering parameters that depend on the medium. We consider the problem of recovering a source located inside such a medium. The main goal will be to state a result about what sources can be recovered when only partial measurements of the outgoing intensity of particles on the boundary are known. In the case that no scattering occurs, this problem is analogous to X-ray tomography with partial data. One particular potential application of this work is in the detection of radiation at security checkpoints. This talk is targeted at a general audience, so no extensive background will be assumed.
