Title Symmetry and Posets.

Given a graded poset (that is, a partially ordered set in which each element is assigned a "level" compatibly with the partial order), one can get a picture of the overall structure of the poset by q-counting the elements by level (that is, counting the element of each level i, multiplying by qi, and then adding the resulting monomials). I will show how to do this very elegantly with some of my favorite posets and in particular a close relationship between the symmetry of the poset from this point of view and various nice properties of corresponding geometric objects.
