Speaker Justin Tittelfitz
Title Thermoacoustic Tomography
Date January 12 4:00pm PDL C-36
In this talk, we will discuss an emerging method of medical imaging known as thermoacousitc tomography. Mathematically, this is an inverse problem whose goal is that of recovering the initial displacement ƒ for a solution u of a wave equation in [0,T] X R^3, given measurements of u on [0,T] x δ Ω, where Ω in R^3 is some bounded domain containing the support of ƒ.
The main objective of this talk will be to discuss some of the techniques used to solve this problem; techniques which are frequently utilizied in the general study of PDE. As such, no prior knowledge of the topic will be assumed, and this talk should be accessible to a general mathematical audience.
