- Textbook : Ross, A First Course in Probability (8th edition)
An older edition of this book would be alright as long as you check the numbers of the problems assigned in homework to make sure that they are the same as in the 8th edition. We will cover the first four chapters of this book and possibly half of the fifth chapter as well.
- Grades :
The grade for this class will be based on three in class quizzes, one midterm and a final exam. There will also be homework every week due in class on Wednesdays.
- Homework, Quizzes and Exams
- Homework (5% of grade) There will be roughly one homework assignment per week except possibly in the first week and around the exams.
Since there is no grader for this class, homework will only contribute to 5% of your overall grade and this grade will be based on whether you made an honest attempt to solve the problems. Although homework is not worth much, they are critical for your success on the quizzes and exams. Much of the quizzes and exams will be taken directly from the homework problems.
- Quizzes (30% of grade) There will be three 15-minute in-class quizzes on the following dates:
Jan 13 (Friday), Jan 27 (Friday), Feb 24 (Friday)
- Midterm (25% of grade) In class on Friday February 10.
- Final Exam (40% of grade) (A) Monday, March 12, 8:30-10:20, CMU 230 and
(B) Wednesday, March 14, 2:30-4:20, CMU 230
