Course Introduction and Information

• Week 1: Read Sections 1.1 and 1.2 (solving linear systems, echelon and triangular systems, Gaussian elimination, leading and free variables, augmented matrix of a system, etc.)
• Week 2: Read Sections 2.1 (for Monday 9/30), 2.2 (for Wed. 10/2), 2.3 (for Fri. 10/4)
• Week 3: Read Sections 3.1 (for Monday 10/7), 3.2 (for Wed. 10/9), more 3.2 (for Fri. 10/11)
• Week 4: Read Sections 3.4 (for Monday 10/14), review & applications & loose ends (for Wed. 10/16), MIDTERM (Fri. 10/18)

Assignments

• Assignment 1 due Monday 9/30 by 9AM: WebAssign: Assignment 1. Suggestion: Try some questions before Friday, so that if you have any trouble with the assignment, you can ask for help.
• Assignment 2 due Friday 10/4 by 9AM: WebAssign: Assignment 2. This assignment should take less time than the ones before and after, since it is mostly short answers. The main purpose of this assignment is to help you assess how well you have really understood the basic but essential material from Chapter 1.
• Assignment 3 due Monday 10/7 by 9AM: WebAssign: Assignment 3. This is a major assignment that provides experience with the new concepts of span and linear independence from 2.2 and 2.3. Also, it includes a few applications (word problems) from 2.1.
• Assignment 4 due Friday 10/11 by 9AM: WebAssign: Assignment 4. This assignment continues with more of 2.3 and then begins work with the concept of Linear Transformation from 3.1
• Assignment 5 due Wednesday 10/16 by 9AM: WebAssign: Assignment 5. This assignment covers the last two sections before the midterm. The important concepts are Matrix Algebra (especially the matrix product) from 2.2 and the Inverse of a transformation or a matrix, from 3.3. continues with more of 2.3 and then begins work with the concept of Linear Transformation from 3.1.
