This class is an introduction to the algebra of matrices and its applications.
The material will be that covered in Introduction to Linear Algebra Fifth Edition by Johnson, Riess and Arnold
    in Chapters 1, 3 and the first half of 4.
In Chapter 1 we will study the use of matrices to solve systems of linear equations by Gauss-Jordan elimination
    and also matrix operations including inverses and their application to linear equations.
In Chapter 2 we will study some theory of vector spaces and linear transformations
    and also the least-squares method that can be used for data fitting.
In Chapter 4 we will give a first look at the Eigenvalue problem and its solution;
    this will involve a look at the determinant of a matrix.

There will be homework due once a week, usually on Friday.
There will be three exams, one on each of the chapters covered.
The last of these will be on the last day of class, Friday, August 22nd.
The course grades will be calculated as follows:
The homework will be posted on this site.
A page of notes (front and back) will be allowed on the exams, along with a scientific (but not graphing) calculator.
Late homework will not be accepted, but the lowest homework grade will be dropped.

I will be out of town the weeks of July 7th, 14th, and 21st.
During these weeks the class will be taught by my fellow graduate student Matt Ballard.

Note: Please e-mail me from an edu or gmail address.
