Math 324 - Multi-Variable Calculus, Fall 2008

This class will cover the calculus of multi-variable functions and vector fields.
In particular we will study derivatives of multi-variable functions, multiple integrals, and derivatives and integrals of vector fields.
This will include the fundemental theorem of line integrals, Green's theorem, Stoke's theorem, and the divergence theorem,
which we will see as arising from similar principles.

The text for the class is Calculus Sixth Edition by James Stewart.
We will study sections 14.5, 14.6, and chapters 15 and 16.
If you have a fifth edition textbook, you can still use it.
You will need, however, to go on-line to find the correct exercises.

There will be homework due once a week on Wednesday, starting the second week.
There will be three 20 minute quizzes given every other Friday.
There will be a midterm in class on Friday, October 31st and a final at the following time:
8:30-10:20 Mon. Dec 8th for 324B
8:30-10:20 Thurs Dec 11th for 324D
I cannot give the final at a different time to individual students except under very unusual circumstances per university policy.
Please notify me well in advance if you cannot take the final at the scheduled time.

The homework will be posted on this site.
A page of notes (front and back) will be allowed on the midterm and final, along with a scientific (but not graphing) calculator.
On all quizzes only a scientific calculator will be allowed.

The grading will be calculated as follows:
Late homework will not be accepted, but the lowest homework grade will be dropped.
