Help

Do you need extra help in the class? Here is some advice.

If you're struggling with the homework, come to the joint office hours. The schedule is posted under the "Office Hours" tab.

Also, email me! I am very happy to help over email. Just tell me which problem you're stuck on, and what you've tried so far. I will help get you unstuck.

If you're studying for an exam, I recommend printing off an old exam. Then go someplace with no computer, no book, and no distractions, and take the exam for 50 or 110 minutes (depending on whether it's a midterm or final). Do not stop after each question to look at the solution! Do the best you can and only look at the solutions afterwards. This will be uncomfortable, but you should do it: the solutions will still be there when you're done, and you get practice with what the test actually will be like this way. Students are often too used to looking at solutions instantly, and don't get used to thinking about their solutions on their own. But you need to think about your own solutions without help on a real exam.

When you've finished your practice test, then look at the solutions and learn how to do all the problems you missed. Come talk to me or the other instructors in the joint office hours if any of the questions still confuse you.

If you want more help, you should visit CLUE, the Center for Learning and Undergraduate Enrichment. They provide evening tutoring services, and they also schedule 307 review sessions before the midterms and finals.

Finally, you might consider hiring a private tutor. The math department has a list of tutors here.
