Rules for the Midterm and Final Exams

Quiz Rules

For in-class quizzes:

  • You will usually have about 15 minutes to complete the quiz.
  • You may use a simple scientific calculator. You may not use a graphing calculator, nor your phone or tablet or any other electronic device.
  • You don't need to use a calculator; it's always OK to leave answers in exact form. However, you should simplify the trig functions that are well known from the unit circle. For example, instead of "sin(0)" you should write "0".
  • No note sheet. You will have a good idea of the topic of the quiz beforehand, so you can focus your studying.
  • Show all your work! If you don't justify your answers, you will get little or no credit (even if they are correct).

For online quizzes through Catalyst:

  • Online quizzes are open book, open notes. You may use your book and your notes from class.
  • You may check your work using a calculator and a slope field generator.
  • You may NOT ask for help on any internet forum or social networking website.
  • You may NOT discuss the quiz with any other person (in the class or not) until the due date.
  • There is usually a time limit, and if there is you'll see the remaining time at the top of your screen. Don't start the quiz until you are ready; once you start, you have to finish within the time limit.
  • Check your answers carefully before submitting the quiz. You can't go back and change them.
  • You are responsible for submitting your quiz answers before the due date.
Your lowest quiz grade will be dropped from your total score. If you miss a quiz, that will be your dropped score.

If I see that you didn't follow the rules, I will report you for cheating.
