Announcements
August 16: Please bring the Autumn 2006 final, linked on the calendar page, to quiz section tomorrow. Also, my Friday office hour this week is moved to Tuesday, 4-5PM. I'll send out a list of questions to go over in lecture on Wednesday later today.August 13: I've moved the due date of HW 7 one more time, so that you can visit the MSC to work on it (since the MSC is closed on Fridays and weekends). It is now due in quiz section on Tuesday, August 17. You can turn it in to me in lecture on Monday if you'd prefer to get it over with.
August 11: Homework 7 is now due on Monday, August 16, in lecture (moved from Friday).
August 6: The last homework of the quarter, Homework 7, is posted below. Have an excellent weekend!
July 30: We have a new classroom: MOR 234. It is not full of construction noise. Homework 6 is posted below, due next Friday.
July 21: Here are solutions to the midterm exam. We'll get the tests back to you as soon as we can! Also, Homework 5 is posted below; it is due a week from this Friday. It is also rather long, so start it as soon as you can.
July 16: A few things: first, Yajun will have an office hour next Monday (the 19th -- before the midterm), from 2:30-4:30PM in the MSC. (Her Thursday office hour next week is cancelled.) In class on Monday we will just be reveiwing the material through section 3.4, and if you want me to be sure to cover any topic in particular then please send me an e-mail with your request. I will have only sporadic e-mail access this weekend but I will do my best to respond promptly to any questions you have. For best results try to write before midday on Sunday if you have homework questions. If you cannot, you can always visit the MSC before class. Have a great weekend and good luck studying!
July 9: HW 4 is posted below. Note that it is due on Monday, July 19, the day before the midterm exam, which gives you an extra weekend to work on it. This assignment is quite long, so I strongly recommend that you start it as soon as possible.
July 7: I am making a permanent switch to my office hours: instead of holding a Monday office hour, I'll do Fridays from 9:30-10:30AM in my office starting this Friday, July 9. If you still want to meet on Monday, just let me know and we can set something up.
July 2: Homework 3 is posted below. No class on Monday, enjoy the holiday weekend!
July 1: I will indeed be back starting tomorrow, Friday! Thanks for your patience.
June 29: I am required to report for jury duty again tomorrow (Wednesday), so you will have a substitute teacher again in lecture. My office hour is again cancelled, but please write to me if you have questions. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, and I hope to be back on Friday. I will keep you posted.
June 26: As I mentioned in class yesterday, I have jury duty on Monday and will therefore be away from class. Lecture will happen as usual, with a substitute (who is also a Math 124 instructor). My Monday office hour is cancelled; if you would like help on homework, check out the MSC, and if you have other questions or concerns, please e-mail me. See you on Wednesday!
June 25: Yajun's office hours are on Thursday mornings, 9:30-11:30. This is especially convenient because your quizzes will happen on Thursday in quiz section, and your homework is due on Friday. Also, the second homework assignment is posted below and due next Friday.
Introductory stuff: Click here for the calendar, which will be updated as we go along. Here is the syllabus, also distributed in class on the first day. Check out this neat article about the intuition behind differential calculus from the New York Times.

My office is hard to find, so follow these directions if you haven't been to the subbasement of Padelford before. Enter Padelford Hall in the C wing. Turn left, turn right, and follow the long hallway to the end. Then turn right and you'll see the C stairway on your right. Go two floors down to level PL and exit the stairwell. Make a right, a left, and then my office is at the end of the short hallway. You also can take the elevator down two floors from the ground floor, then turn right and follow the long hallway, exit the doors (you'll be outside), re-enter the building via the doors on your right, and then follow the above directions as if you just exited the stairwell.
