The phenomenon of rigidity--topological structure determines
geometry--plays a central role in Kleinian groups and hyperbolic geometry,
beginning with Mostow and Prasad's theorems for finite volume manifolds. I
will give an overview of this theory, including Sullivan's rigidity theorem
for quasiconformal deformations, and more recent progress on some of the
remaining open questions.
